I have a 2002 xterra my son bought new. I have owned it 11 years and never a problem so its really a one owner vehicle. I noticed since the weather turned cold I get a slight delay when I shift to drive . It don't do it when it gets warm. If I shift it down to next position it don't have the delay when cold. Drive is the only position I get the slight delay. When warm it drops right in quick.
Fluid looks good but its never has been changed.
I called the local transmission shop and they told me they don't work on Nissan's. This transmission shop has been in business over 45 years and I know the person who owns it. He said they were just too much trouble to take on and he lost too much money trying to repair them.
Does this sound like a sticking shift solenoid ? and should I change the fluid and maybe add some k&w trans x additive to it ? I had good luck with this product a long time ago but not used any in over 30 years.
I don't used the vehicle much but I want it to work correct when I do use it. I don't remember it doing this in the past. Thanks

Did I read that correctly, it has 204K miles on it and he trans fluid/filter has never been changed??? "Splurge" on a fluid/filter change and see what you get, before even trying the additive. I use LubeGard, but the additives are all kind of "Hail Mary" plays; and probably about the same.

Yep, just never got around to changing the fluid. It sits most of the time. Transmission works perfect except for that one glitch . I will try the fluid change this week if it warms up. I really doubt that's going to fix the delay problem in drive though. Tom
