I’ve changed the plugs, cap and, rotor. Is this too much play in the distributor?

I should add that I captured the freeze data.

I captured freeze data 2 different times. It seems to go away. Idle is when it is worst. Fuel pump and filter are only a little over a year old. The truck fires right up. No long crank times. Here is the latest capture

Dear boomer, long time no speak.

Hope all is well.

To properly answer your question, this is distributor end play.

The video you show seems like a gm model. with counter weights under the cap. To test what you are asking is impossible unless you take out the dizzy and measure at cam shaft.

Hey Nick! Good to see ya buddy. I searched here the other day and it seemed like you hadn’t been here in awhile. I was thinking you’d left. Seems a lot of the wrenches aren’t here anymore. Bill R passed. Haven’t seen Kev, mobile Dan and a few others for some time.

As always, thanks for your response to the question. At least now I know some play isn’t a big deal. I’ve considered buying a smoke machine to check for any leaks. I can google some for $40-60 US. Not bad if they actually work. Would be handy to have in the future as well.

It runs great most of the time. I’ll keep after it.

I should update this. I eventually got a P0304 and a little white smoke show in the morning. What I have found is there is a small amount of Dexcool making it into cylinder 4. I pulled the plug and found it had the orange tinge to it. I then stuck my little endoscope camera in for a look. After the short smoke show, it seems to run good. There is no evidence of coolant in the oil. I did the combustion test with the fluid and it did NOT change colors. Apparently the leak is small enough that combustion gasses aren't being picked up in the coolant. Before I go through all of the work of changing head gaskets, (I'm sure the exhaust manifold bolts will be a real bear) I want to find out if maybe it is coming from some other source. Maybe intake gasket? I did replace that 10 years ago with the Fel Pro perma dry plus gaskets. Perhaps seeping in around an intake valve?

I'm thinking maybe try a compression and/or leak down test?
