Please fill out the following to ask a question.

Ford

2.0 L automatic

Focus seems to want to start when cranked. Can hear fuel pump at key on. Checked number one plug with tester. No spark. Where is the coil or ignition module on this car? Does this sound like a coil or ignition module problem? Thanks

Check for injector pulses, also. The fuel pump coming on for a few seconds, at key-on, is good but the important thing would be if the pump comes back on when cranking.

The crank-position sensor (CKP sensor) is key to initiating all three: spark, injectors, and pump back on. If any of those are happening, then the CKP sensor signal is probably OK. However, if you check either the injectors or pump and that isn't also responding, then the CKP sensor circuit is a prime suspect. Note that I said "circuit". the CKP sensor itself may be fine.

Start simple
scan for codes.
Oh shit it one of us ....GM guy some info let me know if it helps help.
SPI engine the coil pack is located @ top engine head under cover, see attachment. Direct PCM control no ICM .
coil has 3 wires KOEO all 3 12v yes or no? Unplug and center wire is supply 12v.

do you see coil?
First a simple check for spark, this is a waste spark system 2 cylinders fire at same time.

working around scanner trying some testing.
Three wire connector - correct?

codes would be easier but with scanner try this-
ok is there spark - cylinders s fire together 1 and 4, other pair 2 and 3?
If none with connector plugged probe wires with KOEO is there 12v at all 3 wires?
what is those answers?

I do not get po335 on my scanner. Shouldnt it have that code for bad crank sensor?

that's why we check codes and troubleshoot BEFORE changing parts.
Why do you think CKP is bad?

what codes do yuu get?
With No spark I would expect P0301 and maybe p035x.

Do you have spark at plugs? #1 is pared with #4. 2 with 3

It is fairly common for a CKP sensor circuit to go bad and not set a code. I just want to see the injector pulses, or pump coming back on, checked so we can be fairly sure it is not a CKP problem. It is an easy check to do (either one) and let's us focus on the ignition system with some confidence the problem is in that area.

Yeah, the codes i get are for the o2 sensors and 02 heater. Nothing about the crank sensor. How do i check the coil? What setting do i put my multimeter?

And when i checked the crank sensor, there was this heavy deposit of dirt/oil. I cleaned it off and put it back on, and both ends of sensor bolt holes broke off as i was plugging it back in.

And the sensor was leaking oil out of it.

well no testing needed here - new CKP for sure. positive thinking Not a hard price to swallow... R&R is likely = diagnostic time.
install and try to start to start let us know...

coil test - is there spark ck all 4.
the wiring connector basics are posted above. only 3 wires.
