I have a 97 Acura CL 2.2L with automatic transmission. 233000 miles

In the mornings, when shifting into reverse it makes a loud clunk noise as it goes into gear. If, instead, I wait a few minutes for it to warm up, there is no noise. The fluid is full and not dirty. It shifts a little hard into other gears as I drive but these are not nearly as bad.

I'd like to understand the source of the problem. Is it a solenoid issue, gunk in the valve body, problem with the clutches used to activate reverse, etc.?

I've had the problem with another car (just before the transmission died) and am very curious about the root cause. I don't think it's a mount issue because it only happens when it is cold.

Does anybody have an explanation for why this noise occurs?

sound's like a valve problem try adding a bottle of the black or platinum LUBE GUARD Additive and it should take about 300+ Mile to give it time to work use this at my transmission shop works great
