Please fill out the following to ask a question.

MAKE:Buick
MODEL: Verano
YEAR
:12
MILES:86000
ENGINE: 4cyl'
DESCRIBE ISSUE.... What is a typical cost to change the timing belt? It has not failed. I need an idea before I offer to help a family member pay for this.
Can someone who has changed a Camry 4-cylinder timing belt accomplish this or are there special tools needed?

hey duesey8 -
I believe the Engine is the popular GM 2.4L, this uses a "chain" and I do not think there is a time change requirement as there is with the belts we see so often.

What is the concern - codes, noises ?

Life expectancy should be around 500k. Unless this is a severe duty like a taxi, half that.

Only thing to really look at, timing chain cam sprocket guides. They melt and basically just disappear down the front cover.

I worked for GM for a while, was a daily job.

Here is an image of what I am talking about.

In the image I snapshot 2 10mm bolt will still be there but no cam sprocket guide there. Gone, nada etc.

Advice, don't cheap out on oil.

If they say use dexos, it's still bulk oil. Go royal or lucas. ;):D

I had a hard time understanding mexican accent, but the video is HD and points out exactly what fail.

So, again, I will repeat myself. You need skills to time this.

Even a skilled tech will need almost a 8hr day to get you back up and running.

Once that goes, the 4.6 labor time goes out the window.

Here are 2 snapshots of parts required. But if the cam guide went south. Best to buy a whole new kit.

I cannot answer this question.

A camry 4 banger in no way resembles a 2.4l ecotech.

Update: Car was repaired; initial diagnosis was not correct in that the timing chain was not involved. Repair cost much less than expected.
Thanks everyone!
