DESCRIBE ISSUE....

Ok I've had a whole host of issues with this truck since I got it. So background on what's been done. Previous owner bulletproofed it, egr delete, new hpop. I've replaced the ficm, glow plug control module, ipr and IPC(?) sensors.

Recently the oil cooler breached so I have to replace that, this is where the question comes in. With it having the egr delete should the egr cooler been deleted as well? Or should I plan to replace it even though it has no purpose or can it be removed and capped off? I'm still learning about this engine and need this advice prior to starting this repair..lo

powerstrokes is a breed unto itself ESPECIALLY with the modifications done*....

Hopefully dave (dabunk) will see this he lives in this world of powerstrokes and duramax.
Maybe try a forum specific to ford powerstrokes...

*FYI: some are illegal - not our concern but be aware.

Yeah I'm aware that in some states the egr delete is illegal. It was done when I got the truck.

On a related note, when the cooler breached it contaminated the cooling system with oil, and quite a bit of it. I'm looking for advice on how to get the oil out without damaging the new cooler. It's really a poor design if I may say so. I'm pretty sure a nice large cooler on the front of the radiator would have served much better than this. Eh, what do I know, I'm not an engineer..

What I have done in the past with Cummins Big cam 350 when oil cooler goes bad and fills cooling syst. with oil is drain syst. pull thermostat and fill with water and DAWN dish detergent and run it then repeat as needed till it comes clean . for a pick up truck you might need only one bottle per fill , big trucks and equip hold a lot of water like 15 gallons so you need 2>3 bottles per fill, then you wil have to flush it a few times to get all the soap out , good luck!

Yeah I have a fleet of these dog 6.0 so here is my .02. As a school bus co we cannot delete EGR coolers but have experience with friends who have. Ford recommends and we do on our fleet as well when the EGR cooler pukes we replace the oil cooler as well as they are usually the cause of the EGR cooler failure. As to the flush what was recommended by celticcrusader is what we do as well. Now if you want to go back stock we have started to use EGR coolers made aftermarket by Jasper and have had no failures and they cost the same as the crap ones the Ford and IH sell. So my suggestion is flush this engine very well and you should be OK but would recommend you replace the EGR cooler back to stock as it is a huge fine for tampering with emissions on an engine so as far as this site is concerned we have to recommend that.

coming into this thread late the agency i work for is required to keep the egr coolers on our 6.0 and 6.4 powerstroke f550 trucks we always go back with a cooler from a company called bulletproof diesel built way better than stock and lifetime warranty. our trucks are exposed to alot of calcium and road salt so we also do aftermarket stainless oil pans or have the new ones rhino lined outside before installing them without it the outer shell of the pan starts rusting about two years and leaks through in about three. just something to think about
