02 cavalier no power in any gear but reverse

Have you taken compression readings yet? Does this engine have VVT with that "phaser" thingy on the exhaust cam? It still isn't clear to me if the engine is running too poorly to go over 30 mph, or whether the trans is not shifting properly into higher gears. Or, is something dragging...

02 cavalier no power in any gear but reverse

"hmmm, wondering if I should even jump into this one." ^^^^ +1 If the engine revs up OK, but the car doesn't move at a comparable speed, then it seems like it is a trans problem for sure. You need to use a scanner that will show trans live-data, to avoid throwing even more parts at it. Check...

02 cavalier no power in any gear but reverse

Any codes set? Are you using live-data at all? When you say "won't go over 30", do you mean the engine won't rev up normally, or that the trans is stuck in a low gear??? Use a tach to correlate engine rpm to mph so we know which it is.

    Lean on both banks (P0171 & P0174)

Oh, it wasn't found visually, you can't see most of that stuff under the intake. My understanding is that he was wiping off something with a paper-towel, and the tail of the towel suddenly got "slurpped up" by the leak! The repair was done mostly by feel, aided by removing the EGR valve. Luck...

    Lean on both banks (P0171 & P0174)

Actually I was more of a (poor, turns out) advisor. This is my son's truck, he was doing most of the work and was the one that found the leak. It is a remarkably hard beast to work on, considering all the room there is under the hood of a full-size PU. That inlet plenum/runner assembly covers...

    Lean on both banks (P0171 & P0174)

I think this one is done! I did check the FP gauge against four others. The gauge we are using is probably reading a bit low, and reads right at 40 with the vac line off, so actual FP must be above 40, in-spec. A lot more exploring, testing, and reading was done, but the culprit turned out to...

    41TE Symptoms

Clean the ring, grip it in the jaws of a caliper as if measuring the ring thickness, and hold it up to a light source. You can see even a .001" gap that way, the side with the bevel/taper will be obvious.

    Adjustment screw heads

What is the brand and P/N of the carb? Are these needle-valves for adjusting fuel trim? Those are usually not to tight, if you can tease them out by any means, even if tedious, then I would cut a slot in the head to use a simple screwdriver. If you can't remove them, maybe cut that slot in...

    4L60E Servicing

I would stick with Dex3 there are some GM transmissions that are not as happy with Dex6 as the Dex3 they originally came with. I don't think the 4L60E is one of those, but why chance it? The two are completely compatible, so no worry if there is some of one or the other left in there

Vibrating/Growl Noise when van AC turned on

My opinion? The compressor is getting worn, but you could put a lot of time/money into chasing this down. I would let it be, as long as it still cools satisfactorily, until the problem is more identifiable. I would also be sure to not start up the A/C until idle is down, to avoid the ugly...

Vibrating/Growl Noise when van AC turned on

Did this noise just start recently, with no recent work on the A/C system? It is unlikely (impossible?) that any "extra" oil got into an operating system. Yes, to get oil out you have to open the system up to some extent, maybe disconnect components to drain all and then re-fill with specified...

    P2128

Is it drivable with that code set? OP, what is you skill level and do you have both an electrical multimeter and a scanner that shows live-data? This problem may even require a "dealer-type" scanner. First step would be to get a schematic of the circuit. Then, visually check all the...

Heater hose routing on new pulley system

Um, t-stat housings are available with two threaded ports, OEM on some '75-'86 Chevy vehicles... PS: You can drill out the plugs in the heads and use a big screw-extractor. Usually, drilling the hole weakens the male thread enough that t comes out reasonably easy.

Heater hose routing on new pulley system

It would probably help if you posted the make and model of the pump/kit; pictures at least. Are you already using a t-stat housing with the extra pipe port on it? Those are readily available for older Chevy V-8s.

    Oil Leak

I moved it to "Domestics", mainly just to see if I could do it... Can anybody help the OP with the leak, or should I suggest posting on my favorite Saturn-specific forum?

    Lean on both banks (P0171 & P0174)

Oh, I can and will back-probe the TPS to look at its "raw data". However, that won't tell me if "closed throttle" is supposed to be 0% or 20%. The PCM could be programmed to work OK either way, but that 20% seems so odd to me that it is a "flag" I would like to resolve before going on to...
