    Ford 4R70W shifting problem

Well, the air-check indicates/confirms the "direct" clutch has an enormous leak. I probably won't post again until I have the trans dis-assembled and can ask questions about which parts need replacing and where to get them.

    Ford 4R70W shifting problem

I confirmed that there is 12V power to the solenoids and that the TFT sensor resistance is "reasonable". The TPS intermittent was a broken wire, now fixed. However, the TP range is still 20-90% (but reliable); is that range normal for this engine? Regardless, the trans problem is still there...

    Ford 4R70W shifting problem

I am kind of headed towards dropping the pan, and maybe VB, for a look-see and the air checks. Dropping the pan is not at all difficult, but it is a messy/tedious process that I don't want to do many times just to trouble-shoot. I see there are a few pressure ports on the exterior of the trans...

    Ford 4R70W shifting problem

This is the Sonnax info I am relying on for solenoid operation/resistance/pin-out. http://d2q1ebiag300ih.cloudfront.net/uploads/instruction/file/2170/AODE-4R75E-ZIP.pdf?v=1481748875 I assume that when a solenoid is "on" it is powered, with current through the coil; is that correct? When "on"...

    PO101 Mass air flow.

Don't bother trying to read the MAF signal frequency, since it seems to be "healed" now. If you will post the MAF, MAP, IAT, and rpm (all from same running condition) I will check the calcs again.

    Ford 4R70W shifting problem

Not only am I "in the weeds" but these weeds are alongside a "dog park". Every step I take seems to get me into more crap! We can't find 12V on the wire that supplies power to the solenoids (pin 4) with KOEO, so I need an electrical schematic. However, if that connector is disconnected the...

    Ford 4R70W shifting problem

Well, the shifting is not responding to the "gear commanded". Live-data indicates that the "gear" progresses from 1 to 3 as speed increases, but shifting does not occur. Why that doesn't set a code, I have no clue. Solenoid resistance reads OK. The trans fuse is OK, and we are checking now...

    Ford 4R70W shifting problem

I'm just getting started, only checked for codes and KOEO data. The only code is P1270, "rev limiter hit". I guess that is to be expected, since the return trip was about 200 miles on highway, in 2nd gear. Live-data shows the range switch is probably OK. However, the TP looks poor to me; 20%...

    Ford 4R70W shifting problem

Yes, this is the same truck I put a JY trans into last Nov. It is about 200 miles away right now, I only have "phoned-in" symptoms but want to get started gathering info. Hopefully it will get back after a long slow drive tonight. For the last few months the 1-2 shift has been delayed, the...

How do we direct a "guest" like this to come here? My recollection is that discussion on the TroubleCodes site is too cumbersome to use for the detailed help process.

    PO101 Mass air flow.

I only looked at the first one. The ratio of "download" time to "view" time is too poor for me to want to look at the rest. If I use the MAP/rpm/IAT of the first one to calculate MAF, it does not correlate to what the PCM reports; but that means little as I am merely repeating the calcs the...

    R134a port caps

No R12 pieces used. Just standard screws and some brass. The cap in the pictures is the smaller one, on the low side. The high side has the larger one, which aggravates difficulty in trying to seal it with a plastic cap. Yes, of course I made a cap for the high too.

    Moth in Engine!

I have had two in my yard in the last few years. One got a dog on the nose. It was amazing how fast that venom worked! Within just 10 minutes the dog seemed near death. He survived, but it took $1600 worth of anti-venom. Not my dog, not my $1600.

    ac blows cold then hot

See my other "A/C ports" thread. As to the spark-plug threads, 14mm and 18mm were standard 50 years before your "50 years ago"; by the 1920s (maybe even before). Quality tooling for manufacturing tooling is never cheap, but those dies would certainly not have been "special" in 1969!

    R134a port caps

I put the pictures with this thread. Those are simple brass "cups" with an M8 x 1.0 screw threaded in and soft-soldered. Loctite would probably work OK, too, but I trust solder better. I tapped the caps with common 5/16"-24, that is so close to M8 x 1.0 that it doesn't matter that, especially...
