Hello to all! I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport SOHC 4. 0L V6 with a 4x4 problem. Possibly the 4x4 switch? When i turn the 4x4 switch to either 4hi or 4lo the lights on the dash do not light up and the 4x4 motor does not engage? If I turn the 4x4 switch to either 4hi or 4lo shouldn't the light on the dash turn on EVEN IF there is a problem somewhere else beyond a blown fuse? The 4x4 fuses on the side of the dash and the ones under the hood are good. I read online about a relay that is on the firewall, sort of a vacuum type device that may also be a culprit? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any replies!

Check engine light is on, but I have codes read, only purge valve canister error. ABS was only thing done before problem. Has a bad ABS sensor and pulled the ABS fuse instead of replacing expensive sensor. Put back in good fuse for ABS, still no 4x4 response when switch is turned?

with the cel on cant be sure if a new code is the issue... free ck at autozone.

As the dia shows thaer are several modules involved...and a referance to power supplied thru (I think liftgate) circuit.... will be tough without a scaner ....

I don't have access to Autozone as I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. I do have a code reader. Thanx for the wiring diagram. I'm not an expert at reading these? I do see on the diagram the liftgate and front/rear ABS sensors connection to the system. I will try another ABS fuse. Thanx again!

Wondering if maybe the 4x4 control module went bad? When I start up the vehicle the 4hi and 4lo lights on the instrument cluster do not light up as they should. When the 4x4 worked whem switch was turned I always heard a clicking sound under the passenger side kick panel. What is really interesting is that the 4x4 control module for the 2001 ford explorer sport is not easy to find. Went through fordparts.com, including VIN, for part, and they had nothing? Not even a link to any manufacturers for suggestion?
