Please fill out the following to ask a question.

    MAKE:GMC
    MODEL:Envoy
    YEAR:2007
    MILES:160000
    ENGINE:4.2 L6
DESCRIBE ISSUE.... While making a hard stop the left front is making a grinding noise. And it's odd because it isn't a brake harder and it becomes louder. There is no grinding for average or moderate braking; just when it is about to anti-lock. The wheel bearing was starting to make some noise so I replaced it thinking maybe that will fix it but I still have the issue. I'm 95% sure the rotor and brake pads are fine. The rotors are not that worn and the wear is very even on both the interior and exterior. The brake pads have probably 3/8 inch left on the wear indicator. I'm in need of suggestion of what else to check. The current solution is to avoid breaking hard. My Envoy does have 4WD if that helps or is a possible cause.

If the grinding sound is similar to the sound of completely worn out pads, metal-on-metal, then my suggestion would be to put on a fresh set of pads and see if the noise is gone.
