4R100 fluid coolant crossover tube
« on: June 29, 2009, 07:37:38 AM »
Hi all,

What is the function of the tube that crosses over from the inlet and outlet ports for transmission fluid cooling on the side of the Ford 4R100?  I can slightly see into the tube while looking into the banjo fitting on one end and it looks like there may be a spring in there.  The E4OD doesn't have this tube.
The trans' torque convertor grenaded leaving a layer of metal in the pan.  I'm hesitant to reuse this tube over again since I can't really seem to flush it.  Any direction for me?

Thanks,

Nick

Just a little more clarification:  The trans is out of a 1998 Expedition equipped with a 5.4L engine.
