EVAP control under hood 1999 Ford Ranger
« on: December 14, 2008, 05:02:45 PM »
I am in the process of understanding how the EVAP system on my 1999 Ford Ranger, 3.0 litre V6, flex fuel operates. I have information on the workings of the system as far as the canister, purge valve, fuel tank vapor valve, and fuel vapor lines. I do have one question as to what role the unit under the hood plays. This the unit with two vacuum lines, an electrical connection, and a test port with a cap on it.

That's the canister (stores vapors for purging) it has a purge valve that is opened under the proper operating conditions and allows the vapors to combine with intake air where they get introduced to the combustion process.

This is not the canister. The canister is above the spare tire under the rear of the truck.

This looks like the control, but it has an "EVAP service port", with a tag that states not to add more than 1 psi of pressure. The top of the control is round, and is located on the drivers side, on top of the inner fender, behind the battery.
