1996 VW Jetta no start
« on: October 26, 2008, 12:02:49 PM »
1996 Jetta sat for 3 months.
Started it up and the Alternator was seized and burnt off the belt.
Freed up the alternator and it ran fine.
Installed a new multigroove belt and car ran for 5 mins and just quit.

Has no spark.
Check ecm fuse ok

Any suggestions?

Is there a power relay?

Sorry not much help, this is the only issue I have played with on a VW Ignition issue.  I believe this was a Motronic system??

I would check all grounds especially the ignition module's. If all grounds are OK, I will swap a known good coil, does not have to be the exact VW one, but has to be one used for electronic ignition, you can get one from just about any vehicle doesn't have point.  FOR TROUBLESHOOTING PURPOSES ONLY.

check the timing belt under the front cover, you may have a lead if you look by the oil filling cap(if there is no shield) if you see the camshaft turning while some one crank the engine.

I checked the coil from pin 1 to 15 and get 3. 13 ohms should read . 5 to 1. 2   ohms
I checked the coil from pin 4 to 15 and get 3. 13 ohms should read  3 to  4     ohms

I see this as the primary and secondary windings are shorted out Coil needs replaced.
