Try this................Jim...................

HOW TO RESET THE ENGINE OIL LIFE SYSTEM
The Engine Oil Life System calculates when to change your engine oil and filter based on vehicle use. Anytime your oil is changed, reset the system so it can calculate when the next oil change is required. If a situation occurs where you change your oil prior to a "CHANGE OIL" light being turned on, reset the system.

After changing the engine oil, the system must be reset. To reset the "CHANGE OIL" light, use the following procedure:

Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
Fully press and release the accelerator pedal slowly three times within five seconds. The reset is complete when you hear the chimes and the CHANGE OIL light goes out. However, if the light stays on and no chime is heard, you will need to repeat the reset procedure.
Turn the key to OFF. If the "CHANGE OIL" light comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

Have already tried this several times. For some odd reason it's not working. Any other suggestions?

Is the check engine light on?...Are there any codes stored?....You might have to have it scanned to see why it won't go off, maybe one of the other mechanics here have another idea......the light doesn't come on by mileage, but by engine revolutions and oil temperature......Jim

There are no other lights on. This car gets serviced regularly.

Jim has the correct procedure.....

Turn key on, don't start car....wait for all the dinging to stop.....now press the accel pedal ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, release completely, and do this two more times within 5 seconds.....with foot off the pedal you should hear a chime 3 times....when you start car, light should be out after 5 seconds.....

Some 01-07 models have the oil change reset through the radio.
In which case, the procedure is in the owners manual.

Try checking the fuse box on the driver's side of the dash...see if there's a reset button there. I had '99 grand am that did it this way and a friend of mine has an '01 and the reset button was in the fuse box on the driver's side of the dash. i forget the sequence, but if it's there you had to turn the ignition on..not start..but on, and then push that button and the "change oil" light will begin to flash...once it does, hold it in for a couple seconds and you'll hear 3 dings and then it will go out. check the owner's manual...should be in there.

I don't know if I should have started a new topic, but I have the same problem on the same car, and I have tried the technique described in the manual about depressing the accelerator 3 times, but it doesn't work.  I have tried it about 10 times.  Any idea about what I am doing wrong? I recently had my oil changed at Walmart - does anyone besides the dealer reset these things?

Green-  yes you should always start a new post....

1st thing welcometo BAT!  hoping we can give you some help....

according to the goo d book

Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
"Fully" press and release the accelerator pedal slowly three times within five seconds.

I have tried that many times and it doesn't work.  The check engine light comes on during start-up and then turns off.  I'm sure there is nothing wrong with my car.   I just can't get the reset to work.
Thanks for the welcome.  This has become my "go to" place for my car problems.

Just by chance, do you have a Driver Information Center (DIC) on this car. If so it is a totally different procedure.
