Son came home yesterday with passenger side power window rolled all the way down and would not raise.  Motor worked. He pulled the inner panel off and the cable had come out of place.  He managed to get the window raised but the cable will not stay in place according to him.  He taped it in place with duct tape to get window up.
What part(s) need to be replaced to fix this problem? Are Dorman parts ok to use or only OEM in this case?  I was not home when he worked on it.  I have no experience with power windows.  I have the Alldata for this Jeep.

I noticed today window had moved downward about 1 inch.

Thanks for the help.

I would replace the window regulator, after market should be fine. I have replaced alot of caravan regulators aftermarket ( run about $80.00) and have had no problems with them.

Today, window moved downward about halfway, so it is time not to delay this. Removed inner panel.  I noticed the cable is not connected anywhere to the track; it is freely inside the door.  Where does the cable attach?  Alldatadiy is a disappointment for this jeep, it shows two inner vertical rails but this jeep has only one.  Also, no clear pictures of attachments points for cable.

Thanks for anymore help on this.   Cry

If you see the cable flopping around, either it has broken or the POS plastic pully has started disintegrating and the whole regulator will have to be replaced. It consists of a single vertical slide, usually rivited to the middle of the inside frame of the door. In the middle fo this frame is a motor driven pully which has the cable wound around it. The cable is atttached to a cross-piece which slides up and down the regulator rail. this cross piece is bolted to the metal u-channel at the window bottom. It is best to purchase a new one before starting so you have it for a guide. The motor must be removed. The window must be run to the bottom, taking care to keep it in the end rails, unbolted from the cross arm and the rivets drilled out. The while assembly comes out through the bottom access hole. The rivets can be replaced with bolts and self-locking nuts, then bolt the window on to the crossarm and reinstall the motor. Good luck and post back of you need more help.

I It is fixed! this same problem once; local dealer wanted $264 for the replacement; found it on-line at a dealer for $60 and it was an oem part. Not as complicated a repair as it seems at first glance. Enjoy!

Took the inner panel off again and I was  wrong in earlier post: the cable is attached to the backside of the vertical rail at the top.  The end of the cable lies in the door and moves based on the upward/downward movement of the window. I have temporarily blocked the window upward with a small block of wood to keep it from moving downward while driving.
Question: What is the failure that is causing the window to move slowly downward while driving?  I can also move the window down using my hands without very much effort. What part is bad and can this individual part be replaced or does the entire regulator need replacement?

Motor operators but does not move the window; a ginding/rubbing sound is heard when window switch is pressed.

Will plan on working on this when heatwave is over. AC works excellent on the Jeep so no big rush to fix.

Alldata is a big disappointment on this.  thanks for any help.

Window regulator. NEW OEM part is updated and will not have (as many) plastic parts. These are the easy ones to do and can knock out in less than hour if it is first time.

You may find "new" OEM parts on line but I'll bet they are the "new old stock" parts that have NOT been updated.

Talk nice to them and ask if they can give you the "NAD" (non-affiliate discount) discount price.

I finally got the new window regualtor from the dealer; will install this Saturday.
One more queston: How do you remove the glass from the channel?  Alldata says to remove it, but with no pictures, etc.  Does it just tilt and come out from the side?  This is right front passenger window.
thanks, jay

The top edge of the inner panel fit against the inside weatherstrip (straight black strip about 2 feet long). remove this strip and lay it on the dashboard. Take note of which end is the front because it's important to reinstall it correctly.

Get the glass disconnected from the regulator and the bracket at or near the bottom of its travel.

With the glass most of the way down in the door, with your back to the seat, rotate the glass counterclockwise about 1/8 turn and lift it straight up and out. Do I have to remind you not to try this with greasy hands?    Dan
