1997 ford F150, 4.2 engine, 90,000 miles. Engine will not start at times, getting more frequent. Engine will turn over and try to start but then will misfire, stutter like it is x-firing. Can cto switch and try again and it will crank and run ok. There is an smell of gasoline like the engine tried to flood. It may go a week or more before it acts up again. Need help. Don't want to get stranded. Where do I start?

Run diagnostics and see what codes you come up with if any.

Scan vehicle, no codes set or no pending codes. Made a resistance check on coil pack. Priamary and secondary test ok. Int. trouble, hard to pinpoint, might be cam shaft sensor. Will keep checking.

would recomend you check for fuel pressure drop. Might have leaking fuel injector(s). Causing flooding overnight or after sitting in parking lot while the wife spends your paycheck. Try cleaning maf sensor with some brake fluid and passing compressed air lighty through it. Iac motor might be dirty, clean. post back plz
