Have you owned car since new?  Is security light on?  flashing?    Was it on prior to battery removal

Perhaps some industrialist previous owner may have "bypassed" the theft system such that it will always start..........until battery power is removed...then it goes into lock-out mode.....this is the downfall of by-passing Passlock system incorrectly......

make sure battery is fully charged. start vehicle, when it stalls the thief lamp should start flashing, leave the key in run position until the lamp is on solid. (takes 10 minutes so need a good & fully charged battery) The Ignition Key MUST remain in the "RUN" position until the telltale stops flashing or the cycle will have to be repeated.

I recommend you pull the ebrake......attach a jumper box to the battery......attempt to start car and release key.....leave on for 10 minutes......when theft light goes out after 10 minutes, turn key to off, then wait 5 seconds and then try to start car.....
